“The ambience was the best I experienced in fifty-two days of traveling.”

AT PURE ROOTS, SIMPLICITY
IS THE LUXURY

This adults-only jungle escape is designed for travelers who crave ease, stillness, and the kind of connection you only find when you slow down.

When you step off the boat in Old Bank, you’ll follow the path up Cocoa Hill — a steady climb that winds through palms and birdsong. The path leading to Pure Roots was recently crafted by Bastimentos residents, hand by hand. Over 400 bags of stone were carried up the hill to create a mud-free trek into the jungle — a path built by the community with love.

THAT ENERGY CAN BE FELT ACROSS THE ISLAND.

For example, it’s in the way the air shifts as you climb, in the quiet greeting of the jungle, in the sense that you’ve arrived somewhere that was built to be cared for.

And before the sea comes into view, the hill slows you down. And by the time you reach the top, it opens you up.

EXHALE BETWEEN THE ADVENTURES

Your cabina is hand-built from local wood, with bamboo-soft blankets, a rain shower, and a private hammock deck where the jungle hum becomes your evening soundtrack.

Meanwhile, each morning begins with a farm-to-table breakfast with fresh fruit and your choice of Boquete coffee or hibiscus tea — We serve it slowly—the way mornings should be.

Afterward, you might join an optional sunrise yoga session, wander to the shore, or simply watch the light change through the trees.

On one day, you’ll head out by boat through Dolphin Bay to the Zapatilla Islands, with lunch included — a taste of the Caribbean’s untamed beauty.

“You are in the jungle and see all kinds of birds and wildlife, but still have every comfort. Jen cooks amazing dishes and always has the coffee on when you arrive for breakfast.”

MEET YOUR HOST

The path at Pure Roots was built with over 700 bags of rock by members of the community.

From the start, Jen welcomes every guest like an old friend — with a fresh pipa, chill music, and stories of island life. She lives on the hill with her dog, surrounded by the jungle she helped shape into a refuge for travelers seeking stillness.

Ground in the foundation of care she has built at Pure Roots with your Jungle Escape.

QUICK ANSWERS

Q. What’s the easiest way to arrive from Panama City?

A. Most guests fly into Bocas del Toro and take a short 10-minute boat to the Bastimentos Park dock in Old Bank. Jen will confirm your arrival details, and someone will meet you at the dock to help with your bags up the hill.

Q. What’s the walk up to Pure Roots like?

A. Part of the adventure is the slow and steady climb. Your bags are carried for you so you can simply take in the views.

Q. What about bugs?

A. You’ll meet a few friendly ones (it’s part of jungle life). Each cabina has a net, and we provide repellent for extra comfort.

Q. Does it rain often?

A. Rain comes and goes, it’s what keeps everything so lush and alive. The rainy season typically runs from November to Early March with the heaviest showers in December to February.

Q. Is it comfortable for solo travelers?

A. Absolutely. Many of our guests travel solo to reconnect with nature and themselves. The community here in Old Bank is warm and welcoming, and Jen lives on-site to ensure guests feel at ease. We do recommend keeping your important documents and money close—both on-site and when exploring the beaches—just as you would when traveling anywhere.

Q. Is there Wi-Fi?

A. Yes, and it’s strong enough to check in with home or upload your photos, but gentle enough that you won’t get lost in the scroll. Most guests find it’s the perfect balance between connected and unplugged.

Q. What happens if the weather changes our plans?

A. Tropical weather has its own rhythm. Sometimes the rain simply slows the day down. Most tours, including Isla Zapatilla, Starfish, Bird Island, and Bioluminescence, go rain or shine. Drivers are flexible if you prefer to adjust your plans, and Jen is always happy to help you reschedule when the skies call for something different.

So, It’s time to slow down and escape to the jungle.
